Why we do what we do

Sama Dog wants to inspire human companions to understand and implement a whole-being, soulful approach to promoting the wellbeing of dogs. Ultimately, the balance and wellbeing of dogs and their humans is a mutual experience.

The hope of our founder, Amanda Ree, is to foster a deeper bond of respect and a higher level of care that ultimately expands beyond man’s best friend, rippling out to encompass all animals, all around the world.

Ayurveda for Dogs - and their humans

Sama Dog wants to bring both human & canine into a blissful state of balance, or “Sama”.
Our approach is inspired by the timeless holistic healing system of Ayurveda.

Sama (Sanskrit) = balance/equanimity
Ayurveda (Sanskrit) = the science or wisdom of life

Ayurveda, or “the science of life,” is a 5,000-year-old system of holistic healing that offers timeless wisdom and practical tools to foster vibrant wellbeing. With its origins in the Vedic tradition of India, Ayurveda defines health as a dynamic state of balance between body, mind, environment and spirit.

Ayurveda teaches a personalized approach to healing that treats the whole being, not just the separate symptoms. Urging individuals to explore what balance looks like for them, this methodology empowers each of us to understand what the most nourishing choices are – for each unique being – that lead to lifelong vitality.

A foundational principle of Ayurveda is the three mind-body types or energies, also known as doshas.

“when we learn to provide the best care for the dogs in our lives,
we learn to care better for ourselves as well.”
